WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE

As a Not-Profit Organization, FROWI is working for the empowerment of Women and Girls for Society transformation. FROWI implements programmes that meets the needs and challenges of socially and economically disadvantaged women and girls, and prepares them for personal, career, and economic success.

We are Friends of Women. We are Friends of Women because we all know that in our society today with most marginalized communities, girls and women bear the brunt of injustice. As Friends of Women, we are working with communities to fight poverty but we know well that this requires focusing on girls and women so that all people can achieve equality. When families struggle to grow enough food to eat, or earn enough money to send all their kids to school, it’s girls who are often the last to eat and first to be kept home from school. In these same communities, it’s women who are frequently denied the right to own the land they’ve farmed their entire lives. They are denied opportunities to make decisions or participate social, economic or political processes. And where girls and women are denied freedom to leave their homes or walk down a street, they struggle to earn a living, attend school or even visit a doctor.

Despite the many obstacles they face, women and girls provide critical solutions to everyday problems as individuals, community members, as leaders. At FROWI, we stand with women and girls, we affirm not only their right to be heard, but also work to empower them create the change they need both for themselves and for all people.

Our Project

Advocating for the Rights of Women Tea Farmers.
PROJECT DECRIPTION

The Government of Uganda has announced a plan to pay some of the disgruntled Kigezi tea farmers in Kigezi Sub-Region, South Western Uganda who were contracted by the government to supply tea seedlings to farmers between 2014 and 2017 but no payment has been made since then. According to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Government has approved Shs 30billion Fund that will be used to clear some of tea farmers in the Region.

Through FROWI’s Program “Women Go Green” where we are supplying seedlings to women to increase their participation in commercial farming as a strategy for economic empowerment of grassroots Women, we have found out that Most of the Women who participated in the initiative of supplying tea seedlings to farmers as contracted by the Government will lose out of this fund if no urgent action is taken to mobilize them and advocate for their rights to ensure that they benefit from the fund that Government has set up.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES

FROWI will conduct the following activities to mobilize Women and advocate for their rights to ensure they benefit from the shs 30billion fund that Government has created.

  1. Establish a Committee of Women advocates to advocate for rights of fellow women
  2. Mapping all the Women who took part in the Government project of supplying tea seedlings to know the exact numbers that will be used to advocate for their rights.
  3. Establish partnerships with a Community Radio and through Radio Programs and spot messages, grassroots Women who took part in the government project of supplying tea seedlings to farmers will be mobilized to stand up for their rights in regard to access to the Government fund that has been created to pay all the team farmers
  4. Conduct press updates, conferences and statements that will supplement our advocacy efforts
  5. Engage a law firm that will represent Women who took part in the Government Project of supplying seedlings but have not been paid up-to-date.
  6. Hold joint dialogue sessions in which partnerships would be forged between the Government, Tea Nursery Beds Operators Associations at District and Sub-Regional level and Women who took part In the Government Project of Supplying tea seedlings to farmers
